If I can remember from the time I had an overnight layover at Changi, the Private Room is closed from 2:30 to 5:30 am daily.

I stay at the Rydges at the airport. Best to have a proper night’s sleep.

Get a room at the Changi Crown Plaza. It's in T3 and one of the great airport hotels. If you are an avgeek get a room on L9 with a runway view!

If you do want the cheaper transit hostel, the one that looks and feels like a prison cell, pun/no pun... book on their website prior to your arrival into SIN.

I would go over to Silverkris lounge for a nap when the Private Room is closed between 2.30-5.30am. You can find long couches there to lie flat. Ive done that a few times and staff were happy to provide a pillow/blanket. You can consider going back to the Private Room for breakfast before heading to the city. Enjoy!

Sorry, that is the one I meant above, not The Rydges. Crown Plaza hotel in T3 is perfect

I stayed at Crown Plaza Level 9 last weekend. It was absolutely amazing. Ended up just watching the planes instead of actually sleeping. oops. At one point there was an SG A330, 787-10, 777, A380 at the gates and a 744F taxiing past.

I'm happy with the transit hotel. You don't have to pick the "prison cell" room. Get one with ensuite and it's just like any hotel room with a proper queen bed. I forgot the exact name but there are 2 available, Aerotel and Ambassador (or something like that) and it only costs ~$90 for 6hr block. To me it's better than crown plaza as it costs less than half and you don't have to clear immigration. It would be my choice if the layover is just overnight.

+1 for the transit hotels. Have stayed in all of them, they are all fine, and much cheaper than the Crown.
If you would like to go for a swim, however, choose the Aerotel.

The Transit Hotels are ok. But personally with 20 hours I’d probably go with the Crowne Plaza which I think is an excellent airport hotel. Have stayed there 2 or 3 times and never been disappointed.

I would also recommend Crowne Plaza. Stayed there last week with wife and 10 week old baby on way to LHR. Free upgrade to level nine suite. Great pool. Breakfast buffet on par if not better than most 5 star Australian hotels. It's not cheap however I thought it was money well spent - we paid extra for a 6pm checkout which worked out well for the QF1 flight to LHR.

yeah have to agree with crowne plaza. Connected to terminal 3, so convenient and great views of the runway if you ask for that view. Hotel is modern and has a great pool area. Ask for a room with direct pool access.

Visited the private room last year and while there are two small rooms, there are no lie down beds/couches. The Ambassador Lounge has these or go to the transit hotel.
