One of the most important things in my mind about a premium cabin seat is its comfort and padding. Flew Etihad about a year ago, noticed a huge difference in the padding of their regional seat compared to their (hard) A380 seat. Does anyone know which airline offers the best padded/softest seat in premium economy or business? Can anyone who has flown Lufthansa in long-haul premium economy or business report about the padding of the seat?

Where are you travelling to? That will narrow down the options

Air New Zealand is the most comfortable bar none.

Agreed on Air NZ for PE. Best seat by some distance comfortable and well padded, I'd put VS PE next. Oddly comfortable seats but not as good as NZ. VA PE is very spacious at 42'' but I never find the seats that comfortable. Sorry never flown LH.

For business, Lufthansa is fine for padding I guess. I don't really notice it. Foot room is atrocious though.

I like whatever those older style seats are that are used by Air India, Turkish Airlines and I think some of Hainan's planes. They're not fancy, but they are big, wide and extremely comfortably to sleep on.

Thank you, @ratrace I’m looking to travel from Europe to the Far East (China, Japan) and was wondering what my options are.

CX is an option - PE in my opinion is one of the better PE products that I’ve tried. J is also pretty good. Cathay Dragon into China feels like a definite step down from the main carrier.

SQ J exception if you can avoid Silk Air into China - SQ PE don’t bother!

Any advice on JAL PE?

I flew JAL PE MEL-NRT return this year and liked it enough to book again for next year (especially since it includes lounge access). I usually can only sleep in a lie flat seat but I was able to get half asleep in their W seat for around 6hours. It has 42inch pitch if that helps.

I've flown this a few times, surprised how small the seat/space felt for PremEcon.

I do like ANA's J-class and product on the 787, although the seat is pretty hard and bedding surprisingly sparse/thin/cheap feeling given the top rankings it generally receives.

Air NZ for PE, VA for J. China Airlines (CI) also have excellent PE & J seats.

China Airlines (Taiwan) has a great seat as well. The leg rest is actually supportive and there is a foot bar as well which you can use (with an extra pillow) as a sort of ankle cradle, really works well for sleeping. Plus no one reclining into you and decent food.
