Flown both myself. My Q First exp. was 1A same leg as you to LAX but in 2013 it was a bit newer then. I thought it was just ok and didn't not even compare to Emirates A380 First.

I just always opt for the newer 787 these days. The jet lag reducing qualities of the 787 on these long hauls are genuine. I'm prepared to forego a bit of space here or there to feel that much better, recover much more quickly, at the other end.

Thanks for the comments eveyone. Managed to secure two seats on QF93 on June 25th. Keen to experience it!

I would be more interested in finding out how you manage to secure a premium cabin seat using points on Qantas - in either F or C

I think you'd be grossly mistaken to call the A380 front cabin First Class. Its well behind the competition based on fares charged and Qantas being a 1st rate carrier. The soft product is woeful for first but fine for business class. For the space and bedding comfort the A380 deluxe Business Class(AKA 'first') cabin wins hands down.

I've found the 'Nightmare' 787 sleepers claustrophobic. Everything in the area is compressing you and I'm of average build and height. Heaven help the tall and large person.
