Hi! I am wanting to get advice about the likelihood of a points upgrade on QF98 on a Wed night. I am QF Gold and have a flexible ticket. The seat map is showing low availability in business, and I’m wondering if it’s even worth a request?
I have had 1 successful upgrade request on a Thursday under exactly the same circumstances as you (Gold on fully flex economy) which to my understanding is a busier flight. EF showing 2 available and 6 blocked so I'd say you're in with a chance.
A seat map isn't a reliable indicator of load. It is the fare bucket availability you need to look at, as the seat map doesn't take into account things such as those who haven't selected seats, blocked seats etc.
Your chances are that not many Plats are in front of the queue.
I travelled through QF98 and was successful for x2 J upgrades back in February. We purposefully avoided the MEL flight in order to increase our chances.

In my experience, QF98 is usually not that heavily booked in J, so an upgrade request should have quite a good chance of success.

It helps if you say where QF98 is going to. If it is HK-Bris on a wednesday you many have a chance as mid week is better.

Expertflyer shows only four seats available for sale, so slim chances I would think.
