Qantas iPhone app - has anyone played around with it? Thoughts? It's a bit annoying that you can't easily look at J fares. Also it's saying my next flight is a flight that I already took last November. But it looks quite good for a first effort. Better than the QFF app.

I just downloaded it this morning, and have started playing with it.  Seems like there is a glitch, it allows me to log in the first time, but whenever i try to log into the other options such as My Bookings, it asks me to Verify Details again by putting in my surname and Pin, however when i put the details in, an Error message appears.  It says-   Login Failed: The details entered do not match our records.  Check your details and re-enter your PIN.

That's weird

I don't have that glitch, but I did find it quite annoying that a lot of options asked me to enter my details again

I get the same problem. Log in fine the first time, but trying the other options won't accept my login details.

I have that glitch too. Problem rectified by removing and re installing the app. Very annoying. Now it is happening again though.

spinoza, your booking from November may have a rentention flag attached to it which makes it linger around. Does it show up in your Qantas.com bookings?

As for the app, it seems to be little more than a wrapper (with excessive use of web views) around the existing Qantas.com mobile site, haphazardly thrown together with a fare alerts utility. It's a bit disappointing.

Yes it does show up there. What is a retention flag and how do I get rid of it??

It's common practise when your booking is made by a travel agent. It allows them to find your booking easily in case there's any issues after you've flown the last leg. The record locators for PNRs are otherwise released into a reusable pool.

You can usually check the full details of your PNR using classic.checkmytrip.com or eitr.amadeusasia.com to determine the retention date.

You'd probably have to contact your travel agent to have it removed.

However, why Qantas' new app doesn't have the smarts to ignore retention flags is a good question.

We've just put up an article on the new app to alert people of its arrival, and would love to have readers share their hands-on reports as comments under that article – click through to http://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-releases-new-iphone-travel-app
