I received my platinum status addition year extension today. Great I am now platinum till April 2021.....but I would have been anyway as I had over the required amount of status creadits in my account. Amongst all the fanfare, nothing has changed for me. Where I really need the support from Qantas, for my years of loyalty, is in the coming year of my membership as three international and many domestic sectors are canceled and/or not possible. I expected my status to be extended to April 2022, thus giving me time to get back to normal with my flying patterns once they stared flying again. It will be interesting to see what Virgins extension looks like. Missed opportunity for Qantas to wow me, instead of deflating me.

Agree, seems like you were better off not flying for last 12 months and you would have received 12 months extension for little or no travel and not qualifying to keep or move up status.

Seriously? We are in a serious pandemic: people are dying. Qantas has stood down a significant number of their staff. And you are upset about QF extending your status only for a year. Get real.

Yes there are bigger issues in the world right now, so why Qantas want to keep this propaganda going that they have extended the status of people who have already reached their status in this current year is as equaling annoying, and then to follow it up with a direct email stating their incorrect statements once again, just compounds the issue.

The pandemic is real, the status extension is not

If your life priority at the moment is retaining platinum status you are a very lucky man.

I really do no think QF will operate at full capacity for a long time so maybe the perks you are desperate for maybe not available.

But rest easy theres 80,000 people also who cant wait to have you back in the lounge on board and on your way.

Qantas are also only offering travel credits on flights until the end of May. The reality is that this will carry on for longer. So why have they only offered it until May? Well it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out, that like your status extension, this is a changing situation and no one can predict it. Cool your jets and wait to see what happens rather than whinging about your status while people are dead due to this pandemic. They may offer a further extension down the line.

@Flyman I am in a similar situation where I am more than likely going to qualify for platinum in my current year and another family member of mine has already retained P1 and the extension does not help either of us. But in light of the circumstances facing the world, retaining status or being concerned about status extensions are not either of our priorities. We have also booked extensive overseas travel on Qantas for later in the year and will deal with as time unfolds and based on what Qantas advises. First world problems. This time out provides an opportunity to reflect and refocus and enjoying time with family and loved ones.

Great, so evidence that they are changing rules as needed. Case closed.

I agree Flyman, my situation is the same as yours. I think that criticisms of this post are missing the fact that Qantas is trying to take credit for something that they are not doing. Other airlines are offering true status extensions. Qantas obviously realised that it was important to offer the extensions as reward for loyalty and to be seen to be doing what others were doing. However, it seems that they found a crafty way of getting out of providing a real benefit in the same way they did with the time limited flight credit vouchers rather than refunds.

Exactly, this "status extension" is just status quo for many of us that have already reached out level but discounts our ability to reach next tier.
