Convenient app delivers food to your airport gate at a touch
There's a free smartphone app-based fix to the frequent flyer problem of finding a decent meal at the airport when you're running late or on a short connection.
Recently updated US-based app B4 You Board (iTunes | Android) will deliver breakfast, lunch or dinner from a variety of airport restaurants straight to your gate -- or you can pick it up from their kiosk instead.
Select and pay for your food 20 minutes before you want it delivered, and you'll be the envy of your fellow passengers stuck with a longlife snack box.
The app works at six US airports, including key connection hubs at Chicago, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Salt Lake and New York's JFK, making it especially convenient for Australians connecting on longer journeys across the States.
There's a wide range of restaurants on offer, with options at Phoenix including Barrio Café, Blanco Tacos & Tequila, Chelsea’s Kitchen, Cowboy Caio, Dilly’s Deli, Focaccia Fiorentina, Modern Burger and Olive & Ivy and Sauce.
(Please, for the sake of your fellow passengers, order responsibly if you're going to be eating on board: nothing too fragrant or messy.)
New York's JFK offers Balducci's sandwiches, salads and side dishes, or you can pick one of the pre-arranged meal deals.
Refreshingly healthy options to tuck away for a longer flight also abound.
The app handily calculates the local sales tax -- a bonus if you're trying to stick to a corporate budget.
Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards are welcomed, with no surcharge.
