DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club opens in San Francisco

Hilton HHonors members have a new hotel option in San Francisco with the opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club in the city’s Easy Bay region.

Formerly a Hilton Hotel, a comprehensive multi-million dollar renovation now sees the 292-room property better-suited to the DoubleTree brand.

Located at the crossroads of highways 580 and 680, the full-service DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club offers easy access to the San Francisco city and also to Oakland and San Jose.

A contemporary design accented by wooden and marble fixtures, the hotel packs in 42-inch HDTVs and the signature DoubleTree by Hilton SweetDreams bed in every room.

There’s a 24-hour business centre for guests and over 900 square metres of flexible meeting and event space:

Players Restaurant & Lounge serves up salads, sandwiches, and snacks, while travellers can instead soak up the Californian sunshine by the sparkling outdoor pool or in the whirlpool with a cocktail in hand.

The in-house fitness centre comes with more than standard gym equipment – there are also fitness classes and spa services, although closes at 11pm on weeknights and 10pm on weekends.

In addition to the signature chocolate chip cookie welcome, guests will enjoy other DoubleTree by Hilton brand staples including an assortment of gourmet in-room tea and coffee choices from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and an array of CITRON body care products by Crabtree & Evelyn.

Hilton HHonors members can now earn and redeem HHonors points with their stay, along with double points on the Best Available Rates on Friday through Sunday stays until January 21 2015.

As a category four hotel in the HHonors program, free nights can be had for 20,000 to 30,000 points, depending on both the season and demand.

Certainly would beat the Sheraton Pleasanton, mere metres away on the circular boulevard they are all situated on that surrounds a large shopping centre. When I stayed there seven months ago it was clean, but very tired and in dire need of a major reno (the boiler broke the cold morning after I arrived the night earlier after doing MEL-LAX-SFO, so no shower; taking the 'pleasant' out of 'Pleasanton' somewhat). Just like this morph down the road at the Hilton, the Sheraton could do with a 'downgrade' to the Four Points brand along with the concurrent 'upgrade' alongside a complete reno.

Just be aware, it is a LONG drive out from the CBD (at least an hour +) or 90-100 minute ride on BART. The station is walking distance (less than 2-3 minutes; 5 at worst) to ALL hotels in the Pleasanton area). It is also a deathly quiet area at night (never feels unsafe though, as all very well lit) so good for peace & quiet come sleep time. The shopping centre is literally just across the road and has everything you could need (there's a great A T & T store in there too).
