Dubai Metro: new Green Line with Airport station opens in September
Dubai's fast-growing Metro transport system's latest section will open this September, with new stops connecting Dubai International Airport (DXB) with the centre of Dubai itself.
The new Green Line covers 23 km of the city, with 18 stations, and is focussed on connecting the inner city with the existing southeast-northwest Red Line, which already has stops at terminals 1 and 3 of Dubai Airport.
A brand-new station (called Airport Free Zone) will reach Terminal 2 of Dubai Airport on the Green Line.
The Green Line will also continue further northwest towards the coast than the Red Line does currently, making the system more useful for business travellers.
The new Green Line will provide additional airport access and strike further into the centre of Dubai too.
Red Line interchanges are served by Khalid bin Al Waleed and Union stations.
If two lines doesn't sound like enough to get around the Dubai emirate, the Blue Line and Purple Line (heading west from the airport, further to the south than the existing Red Line) are planned for completion in 2012.
They'll also connect the existing Dubai International Airport with the brand new Al Maktoum mega-airport further to the west, which is also planned to open in 2012.
