Earn Virgin Australia frequent flyer points on iTunes music, apps

Virgin Australia has partnered with Apple to let travellers earn frequent flyer points through the iTunes Australia store.

You heard that right: buy music, movies, books and apps for your iDevice or Mac and you'll earn two Velocity frequent flyer points per $1.

In fact, until November 30 the earn rate is doubled to four points per dollar under a Christmas double points promotion.

iTunes is one of a raft of partners which Virgin Australia has announced today, with the rest being the online shopping sites of high-end retailers Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue and Topshop.

The standard earn rate for these is one point per dollar, but again, that doubles to two points per dollar through to November 30.

They're all scheduled to be on tap through the Velocity Global eStore, including a link through to iTunes Australia – you'll need to log onto iTunes through that link to collect your frequent flyer points as you buy and download content.

Interesting that Velocity has cosied up to Apple (both the Apple online store & now iTunes) but Virgin Australia will be using Samsung tablets for IFE.

I didnt know Topshop was a points partner, thanks for the info. Even better news is Topman gives more points than Topshop!

Wow, I've never heard of an airline giving away frequent flyer points through iTunes, is this a first? Well done, Virgin!
