Qantas partner Emirates will ditch the ‘sloping sleepers’ in business class on flights to Zurich, with the second of EK’s daily services upgraded to the Airbus A380 and its fully-flat beds from October 1.
The change also affords every passenger at the pointy end – or in this case, on the upper deck – direct aisle access, rather than vaulting over your seatmate as you would on the Boeing 777 that the A380 replaces.
First class passengers have much the same suites aboard the A380, but can make use of the superjumbo’s ‘shower spas’ to freshen up along the way or to style their hair with an on-board hairdryer.
Also coming along for the ride is the A380’s inflight cocktail bar and lounge, found at the rear of the upper deck and open to both business and first class flyers.
Flight EK85 pushes back in Dubai at 3:45pm to reach Zurich at 8:20pm, while on the return, EK86 is wheels-up at 10:15pm for a morning arrival in Dubai at 6:25am the following day.
EK86 aligns perfectly for Sydney-bound travellers on Qantas flight QF2 with a transit time of exactly three hours in Dubai, although not when flying from Sydney on QF1.
Emirates' other daily Dubai-Zurich flights – EK87 and EK88 – are already served by the A380 and pair with both QF9 and QF10 for Melbourne residents.

i flew from Zurich to Dubai and then on to melbourne in January this year on the A380. The Zurich to Dubai leg was almost empty, i counted and there was only about 90 people in economy and i was talking to the flight attendant and she said that up stairs was far from full as well. this is why it surprises me, even though we chose to fly out of europe from zurich over somewhere else becuase the A380 flew into Zurich!

When are Emirates going to get ride of those nasty "sloping sleepers" on their 777 birds?
Really shoddy product continuity.

when will they upgrade the Dubai-Adelaide flights? it's more important to fly 13 hours than a quick swiss jump!
