Despite being Germany's busiest airport, and having the highest number of international destinations of any airport in the world (a staggering 265 cities show up on the arrivals and departures boards, and that's just for non-stop services), Frankfurt Airport has to date been surprisingly under-served by quality hotels.
There's only one 'international-class' hotel – the Sheraton Frankfurt Hotel & Towers – located right at the airport itself, with two lower-grade hotels almost 1km distant and another adjacent to the airport's bustling CargoCity freight facility.
So stopover travellers will welcome the opening at year's end of the Frankfurt Airport Hilton, which we expect will also see some bookings from Australians travelling on Qantas’ Sydney-Frankfurt (via Singapore) service.
The newly-built hotel is directly linked to the main airport buildings and is housed in The Squaire, a sprawling commercial centre with offices, shops and a conference venue built over Frankfurt Airport's long-distance railway station for inter-city express services following the Cologne–Frankfurt high-speed rail line.
(Of course, the underground station at Terminal 1 provides local S-Bahn services to Frankfurt Central Station.)
Hilton says the new hotel is primarily built for business travellers but with more emphasis on leisure facilities due to the increased blurring of the lines between business and leisure accommodation.
Each of the 248 rooms and suites has a business-friendly workspace area with ergonomic chairs, UK and US power sockets, wireless Internet and sound proofing.
Two executive floors provide guests with a restricted-access lounge featuring private check-in and check-out services, breakfast and food service.
