Heathrow Express launches iPhone and iPad app

Heathrow Express has released the iPhone version of its BlackBerry and Android app, which allows passengers of the high-speed express train between London's Heathrow Airport and Paddington station to book their journey and pay for their tickets directly from their iPhone.

That's got to be better than queueing up at the station to buy your tickets. It's also cheaper, with the iPhone-purchased tickets costing £16.50 for a single journey and £32 for the roundtrip.

These are the same costs as if you bought your tickets online, but represent a handy saving compared to purchasing them from a ticket machine (£18 for a single trip) or onboard (£23 for a single trip and £37 return).

The ticket is downloaded to your phone as a 2D barcode, like this:

The app also provides live service updates to advise of any delays on the line, and can store your credit card details so it's easier to buy additional tickets using the same card.

Saving credit card details is a big plus for the app's convenience factor

Just enter your 3-digit security code, download your ticket at least 15 minutes before departure and you’re on your way.

For us at Australian Business Traveller this is just one more reason to love the Heathrow Express. What's not to like about the Heathrow Express? It's fast – no more than 20 minutes between Heathrow and Paddington – with services every 15 minutes and free Wi-Fi on board.

And now you can buy your ticket straight over your BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone. That's icing on a busy business traveller's cake.
