Fed up with hotels with slow, s-l-o-w Internet connections and wi-fi that's next to useless?
Click your way over to HotelWiFiTest, which lets travellers rate a hotel's Internet connection. Think of it as TripAdvisor for hotel wi-fi, so you can know just how good – or how bad – the Internet will be before you book.
"We believe that when a hotel advertises free WiFi, they should provide travelers with a fast and reliable connection" states the web service.
"Unfortunately, many hotels who boast about free WiFi neglect to ensure that the quality the connection is worth the price they charge for the stay."
The website lets visitors sort hotels based on several connection-centric criteria with the option to book a hotel on the spot.
The crowd-sourced HotelWiFiTest website is collating scores for hotels around the world, and invites guests to log on and run the site's own automated speed test to add their stay to the database.

This is so incredibly usefull! There's nothing more frustrating than having to endure glacially slow internet when paying top dollar in a 4- or 5- star hotel!
Hopefully it becomes a lot more accurate over time.

Whilst this may be a use thing, please remember that free wi-fi in some motels is exectly that. The price of the room has not been increased to include a cost for wi-fi (i.e. not bundled). Some chains require hotels to include and advertise free wifi, hotels however cannot guarantee the speed as the speed is dependent on the provider and the area. Some regional areas still do not have good internet and there is nothing that can be done about it. I know, we've tried everything at our motel to provide the best access we can but until the NBN comes we are stuck with lower than preferred speeds.
