Monaco Yacht Show kicks off with almost $5 billion in luxury vessels

Buyers, industry professionals, and 30,000 yachting enthusiasts congregate every September at the deepwater Mediterranean port of Hercules for the Monaco Yacht Show.
This weekend sees the 28th annual networking and display showcase featuring roughly 120 luxury vessels worth more than US$3.5 billion.
Established in 1991, the Monaco Yacht Show plays host to 580 leading companies in the industry, including superyacht builders, tender manufacturers, brokerage houses, and water toy purveyors – and we've collected some highlights of this year's show, just in time for your long weekend.
Of 121 vessels on display this year, 106 are motor yachts and 14 are sailing yachts. The show also plays host to other luxury manufacturers on and off the water, including helicopters and automobiles.
A helicopter sits atop luxury yacht Anna I, manufactured by Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards. Featuring exterior and interior design by Michael Leach Design, Anna I will berth up to 12 guests across six staterooms, with a dedicated crew of 19. Current charter rate for the vessel is US$587,000 per week.
The most expensive vessel for sale at the show is the Excellence V, manufactured by German shipbuilders Abeking & Rasmussen and brokered through Burgess. Asking price is US$88 million.
With interiors and exteriors by Reymond Langton Design, the Excellence V include a waterfront gym, a dedicated cinema, and multiple outdoor lounge areas with spa pools. It can comfortably accommodate up to 14 guests across seven adaptable cabins and has room for up to 18 crew members.
With a cruising speed of 13 knots and maximum speed of 17 knots, the Excellence V has a range of 4,800 nautical miles. A central elevator services all five decks and is enclosed by a dramatic winding staircase.
Lamborghini doubles down in the toys and tender area of the show with El Toro de Lamborghini. Belgium-based builder Bernico created the custom power boat for a client who wanted his seafaring craft to match his road vehicle – a light-blue Lamborghini Aventador. The boat, based on a Leverage 43 Quad, was created utilizing original parts sent from Lamborghini in Italy, including the steering wheel and switches. It features a kitchen, bathroom, lounger, retractable swim platform, and four 400-horsepower engines that can reportedly propel the vessel to a top speed of almost 160km/h.
A crew member polishes the bowsprit support beam on the sailing yacht Athos. Manufactured by McMaster Yachts, the 203-foot craft (62 meters) is currently for sale at approximately US$41 million.
Designed in collaboration with Pininfarina and Bar Technologies, the new R35 from U.K.-based Princess Yachts is a carbon fiber, 35-foot craft powered by V8 engines with a listed top speed of 50 knots. The sleek outer design conceals a luxury cabin that features a galley, en-suite, and a seating area that can convert to a double berth.
A tender navigates past the superyacht Go. Making its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, Go is the largest yacht to date from Turkey-based Turquoise Yachts, measuring 252.6 feet (77 meters) in length. Features include an owner’s suite with private deck and jacuzzi, two guest suites, six cabins, a beach club area, treatment room, gym, and steam room.
