Melbourne’s Essendon Airport precinct will gain an on-site hotel with the opening of a Hyatt Place property in early 2017.
Offering a more contemporary take on the traditional Hyatt brand and as the first Hyatt Place hotel in Australia, the Melbourne property will boast 166 rooms and an adjacent events centre with space for up to 1,000 guests spanning 1,700m2.
That’s also being joined by a 24/7 fitness centre, complimentary wireless Internet for all guests, a restaurant and bar by Peter Rowland and an all-night dining menu.
Situated in Melbourne’s northwest, the Hyatt Place Essendon Airport hotel is roughly 6.5km from the city’s main Tullamarine Airport, and around 10km from the city centre.
Members of the Hyatt Gold Passport scheme will be able to both earn and redeem points at the Hyatt Place, while Platinum and Diamond cardholders will earn even more points per dollar spent, enjoy faster Internet access and may be able to secure a room when the hotel is fully-booked.

Yes, I'm not entirely sure who the target market will be either. In that area it's DFO shoppers or Coles or Lamana shoppers, can't imagine any of them need to stay at Hyatt Place. Infact, it looks too good for Essendon, needs to be up at Melbourne Aiport, the Parkroyal is looking very jetlagged there. Maybe if it has decent conference facilities and restaurant/bars it will be ok. I think it will be a magnificent addition to Essendon Airport and the general area, great for people needing to stay near relatives in a decent hotel north of the city, well located to all forms of transport.
