New Qantas safety video: no hobbits, celebrities or cricketers

As part of a substantial brand refinement campaign Qantas has rolled out a fresh inflight safety video featuring the airline's new uniforms and a dominant splash of 'Qantas red'.

In a nod to the chic uniforms the video is titled 'Safety in Style'.

But the Flying Kangaroo has foregone the fancy tricks favoured by other airlines – most notably Air New Zealand, the undisputed champ of quirky safety clips, but also Virgin America with its recent Glee-like video.

Just like the latest Qantas TV commercial, it's very 'back to basics'.

"Our new cabin safety video reflects the positive changes we're making at Qantas" the airline says. "It marks a new chapter in our brand."

The video is now showing on Qantas domestic and international flights, but if you're so inclined you can watch it right here.

That sparsely-populated Economy Class cabin appears to depict the load factor on the A380-operated Dubai flights that recent media reports have spoken about!

I was on QF2 recently and the plane was full. Might of just been that day I guess.

No wonder there are so few people on this A380, it looks like it departed from the wrong terminal given the flight and cabin crew seem to be walking through the domestic terminal!!!

Haven't seen the new one yet, but the last one... it's possible they changed it because a lot of people were complaining about all the annoying sport star crap they had been using. A few people left suggestions based on the AA video.

Snore... such a boring video. But I guess it gets the message across!

It does the job. I personally don't enjoy this one as much as the previous one, the You're In Safe Hands version; I feel the voices used are a little weaker or rougher than in the previous one, and as such might be a little harder for passengers to follow.

Cellular? Cellular???
