First look: Qantas’ all-new Broome Lounge

Qantas is building a bigger lounge at WA's Broome Airport, with the refurbished lounge doubling in size when it reopens in December 2024.

This is the second time Qantas' Broome Regional Lounge has been given a much-needed boost in capacity, following an upsizing back in mid-2013.

But this time around, travellers are in for an all-new lounge in a new location at the airport terminal, which is itself being expanded.

And it's a zero-to-hero effort which will see the Qantas Broome Regional Lounge go from this...

... to this.

The architecture of the lounge reflects the surrounding Kimberley area, effectively immersing passengers in the region’s natural landscape from the moment they step through the door.

Qantas says that rich, vibrant colours inspired by the Dampier Peninsula, which connects Broome to the remote Kimberley coast, will be prominent throughout the lounge’s fit-out.

This will include “deep red hues from the James Price Point landscape, bright oranges representing the sand and soil at Roebuck Bay and blue tones drawing from Willie Creek.”

It’s a welcome change from the era when Qantas dictated all its lounges must follow the same corporate language of design, colours and furnishings in the name of brand consistency.

These days, each new Qantas lounge – be it a domestic Qantas Club or an overseas business or first class lounge – has a unique look that draws heavily on local influences and celebrates its location.

At the same time, there are unmistakeable anchor elements which identify it as a Qantas lounge.

“We are thrilled to bring this new, elevated lounge experience to our customers in Broome, a popular destination on our network,” notes Qantas Chief Customer and Digital Officer Catriona Larritt.

“Western Australia is a key market for us and our continued investment in the state underscores our commitment to supporting visitation to Broome and providing exceptional experiences for our customers who are travelling through for business or leisure.”

The existing Qantas Broome Regional Lounge will remain open while the new Broome Regional Lounge takes shape.

Qantas runs year-round flights between Broome and Perth, alongside direct Sydney-Broome and Melbourne-Broome flights between April and October.
