Oman Air eyes return to Singapore
The Gulf carrier and soon-to-be Oneworld member looks set to spread its wings…
Oman Air could add Singapore to its Asian network, marking a return to the Lion City alongside rival regional heavyweights such as Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways.
A preliminary schedule filed by the Muscat-based airline, which intends to join the Oneworld alliance in June 2025, indicates daily flights on a Boeing 787-9 with private Business Suites. Oman Air last flew to Singapore in May 2017.
According to the draft schedule:
- flight WY862 would depart Singapore at 9.25am, arriving in Muscat at 12.10pm
- flight WY861 would depart Muscat at 9.35pm, arriving in Singapore at 8.10am the following day
An Oman Air spokesperson confirmed to Executive Traveller the carrier was “evaluating a range of options for our future network and as part of the process we need to understand the likelihood of acquiring slots for a new service.”
“These slot filings are part of that pathfinding process,” the spokesperson added.
The addition of Singapore would add to the connectivity options with partner Qantas, which flies to Singapore from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth – although Oman Air’s tentative departure times would mean an overnight stay in Singapore after your Qantas flight.
This would also come with the option of a pre-flight visit to the Qantas Business Lounge (based on frequent flyer status) or Qatar Airways Premium Lounge (for a business class booking) at Singapore’s Changi Terminal 1, provided the Oman Air flights took off from T1.
They’re also a quick Skytrain shuttle ride away from T2 and T3.
If Oman Air is assigned to Changi Terminal 4, then the Cathay Pacific lounge will be a reliable go-to for frequent flyers and business class passengers alike.
