First look: British Airways’ upgraded Singapore lounge

British Airways’ lounge at Singapore Changi Airport sits directly opposite the Qantas business class lounge, and both spaces are popular with business class passengers and frequent flyers.

A recent upgrade of BA’s lounge has now narrowed the gap between the British and Australian flag-carriers.

If your habit is to make a beeline for the nearby Qantas lounge, it’s time to rethink that strategy and check out British Airways’ revamped offering.

There’s plenty of new furniture to go with the fresh look, which echoes both British heritage and Singapore’s vibrant culture.

You’ll find the familiar buffet spread and a wide selection of wines and spirits, although scanning the QR code on each table calls up a menu of hot dishes plus pre-mixed cocktails and Champagne.

If you want to get down to work, or just wind down, venture further into this long lounge to stake out your own space.

A standout of this transformation is the new Concorde Dining area, which was previously dubbed The Bar (and long before that, the Concorde Bar).

This used to be a dark, windowless box, and is now... well, okay, it’s still windowless, but now there’s better lighting and an elevated à la carte dining experience to go with the new furniture and decor.

The menu ranges from British favourites such as herb-crusted beef tenderloin and sticky toffee pudding to the locally-inspired delights of cashew satay chicken and Lion’s Mane mushroom curry.

You’ll also find three premium Champagnes from Joseph Perrier and Bollinger as well as three whiskies (Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Glenlivet 18, and Bowmore 18).

British Airways’ Singapore lounge is open from 3pm to midnight, and primarily caters for flights BA15/BA16 (London-Singapore-Sydney) as well as BA11/BA12 (the London-Singapore A380).

Of course, the lounge can be visited by business class and first class flyers on not only British Airways but other Oneworld airlines which fly to Singapore.

That list includes Finnair, JAL, Qantas, and Qatar Airways (all of which use Changi T1), plus Malaysia Airlines (departing from Changi T2) and SriLankan Airlines (Changi T3)

Travellers in premium economy or economy holding Oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status can also pop into the British Airways lounge.

British Airways says the Concorde Dining room is restricted to first class passengers on a BA flight, having revised its initial incorrect advice to Executive Traveller that the dining area also weclomed Oneworld Emerald-grade frequent flyers.

Given that business and first class passengers can also visit T1’s excellent Qatar Airways lounge, while Oneworld Emeralds are welcome at the Qantas first class lounge, Concord Dining may not be the first choice of a savvy traveller.

However, it’s always pleasing to see more choice on the loungescape – and status permitting, the Concord Dining room could prove a quieter and more relaxing space outside of the QF1/QF2 logjam in the Qantas lounges.

Are you sure the Concorde Dining Room is available to OWEs, OW First pax and regular BA Golds? Maybe it has changed but I understood the Concorde rooms were only accessible to BA First pax and GGL.

Hi ScottB - Concorde Dining access at the Singapore has seemingly changed in line with the lounge's revamp. Here is what BA PR told me when I quizzed them over SIN Concorde Dining access: "For the Concorde Dining Room, it is for Gold cardholders/OneWorld equivalents, Gold Guest List members, or passengers traveling in First."

Scott B is correct - I was there recently and they do not admit OneWorld Emerald

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

I have generally not loved the BA lounges, but for a couple of trips later this year, I have opted to build a 4 hour break at Singapore Changi Airport by taking QF83, rather than taking QF1 straight through - except, naturally, for the mad rush to slurp down a Laksa during the short refuel & refresh stop.

Maybe a light dinner in the Concord Dining room, checking out the showers perhaps, then off the Qantas First lounge for the obligatory Laksa and to raid the sweetie jar!

Sounds like a plan. I def understand why you'd catch QF83  and wait a few hours for QF1 to come in to connect. That mad pit-stop rush that QF1 pax are forced to do has never appealed to me. I'd rather take my time at Changi and relax.

I always prefer BA business to QF business in Singapore - later is way too busy for relaxing. So IMHO gap was not narrowing but rather widening :-)))

Flying BA Business, I was not allowed into the Concorde Dining as a QF Platinum and was told it's strictly for First Class passengers and BA Gold Guest List (not even BA Gold).

I think the PR person you quizzed doesn't have the correct information. It could be worth updating the article to save people the walk from the Qantas First Lounge (where I quickly retreated).

I personally would stop accepting pax by status into lounges - upgrade your ticket using your status and you are welcome. This is why QF business so overcrowded and as result not so inviting - way too many status pax.

Another note about QF First in Singapore. I flown First from Singapore multiply times and I never found First lounge appealing for relaxation. I usually take shower and eat there and then retreat in BA Business that always have quite and calm atmosphere. Yes there is better booze in QF First, but how much "better" do you need?

Updated: Just saw David's update note near the bottom of the article. Hopefully the BA public relations people will get back soon. Rejection is always an unhappy experience!

I just went to the BA media release, and according to this, Lounge access is available to BA First and Club World, BA Executive Gold and Silver, and OneWorld Emerald or Sapphire.

The Concorde Dining area is exclusively for 'eligible customers' which I presume does not include OneWorld Emerald and Sapphire. Eligible Customers seem not to be listed here.

See the note at the very bottom of the link below:
