Brisbane’s skyline has changed dramatically in recent years, with new towers all putting their stamp on the city. But there’s one new addition attracting more interest than most: The Star Brisbane – and an official opening date has at last been set.

Centrepiece of the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf development, The Star is opting for a staged opening, with public areas including the Sky Deck viewing platform – floating 100m above the Brisbane River – welcoming visitors from August 29.

A green space dubbed ‘The Landing’, a trio of restaurants on the Sky Deck, and the debut of 340-room hotel The Star Grand will soon follow, with function spaces, multiple restaurants and the casino gaming floor to join them by year’s end.

Venues such as a sprawling Sports Bar, reimagined Fat Noodle restaurant by celebrity chef Luke Nguyen, Japanese stand-out Sokyo and Cherry bar will all be open from day one.

The Star Brisbane CEO Daniel Finch says “Fittingly, public spaces will be among the first areas to be opened and that includes the viewing platform on Sky Deck, Miller Park, and of course the Neville Bonner Bridge linking Queen’s Wharf to South Bank.

“We are thrilled to be commencing our phased opening to coincide with Brisbane’s biggest party, Brisbane Festival; however the transformed grassed public areas along the river including The Landing and Finger Wharves will open after Riverfire,” Finch adds.

For many travellers, The Star Grand is arguably the most anticipated addition. Views to South Bank and beyond will be enjoyed from many of its rooms which, though sharing the DNA of sibling hotels in Sydney and Gold Coast, feature a more contemporary, coastal chic design.

Top of the bill are the hotel’s four Skyline Penthouse Suites, each one enjoying separate living and dining areas, plus glamorous circular bath tubs to sit and soak in the city views.

Concept images also reveal beautifully-styled River Suites adorned in calming tones of brown and cream, accented by geometric patterns and golden metallic detailing in both the pendant lights and trims on the marble-topped bedside tables.

And in the bathrooms, deep bathtubs and separate showers, double vanities and fluffy robes, plus large sliding doors to screen off the bathing area from the primary living space.

Beyond the rooms guests will have exclusive access to three stunning pools on the resort’s Leisure Deck – a 12,000sqm open-air oasis delivering two football fields of public space, plus direct access to The Star Brisbane’s striking showpiece Sky Deck.

Phase two of the development will see the opening of the Dorsett and Rosewood hotels, housed within an additional tower, plus luxury retail outlets and a precinct of restored heritage buildings.
