Just seven months after opening flights to Brisbane, Philippine Airlines will shut down Queensland operations from October 31st. The carrier refers to the move as a temporary (though indefinite) suspension.
Flights to Melbourne will also be reduced from five flights a week to three. Sydney Airports’ five weekly flights are unscathed, and it remains one of Philippine Airlines more popular destinations.
The Brisbane-Manila route was offered in March for the first time in ten years.
Airline spokesperson Cielo Villaluna states that market conditions and the upcoming slow season contributed to the cuts being made.
Those affected by the cancellation will be contacted by PAL and given assistance in what possible new routes to their destination.
