How to get a Velocity status match with Virgin Voyages
The ‘adults only’ cruise line is giving members of 14 loyalty programs a new reason to jump ship.
Virgin Australia’s top-tier Velocity Frequent Flyer members can now claim a status match to cruise sibling Virgin Voyages’ Sailing Club loyalty program, with benefits including $100 bar tabs and access to an exclusive cocktail soiree, not to mention high-speed WiFi on the high seas.
Velocity Gold, Platinum and Beyond cardholders are all on the list, as is Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold, together with a flotilla of elite members from rival cruise lines such as Carnival Cruises, Disney and Holland America Line.
The full list for the Virgin Voyages Sailing Club status match is as follows:
- Azamara Circle
- Carnival VIFP Club
- Celebrity Cruises Captain’s Club
- Disney Castaway
- Holland America Line Mariner Society
- MSC Voyagers Cruise
- Norwegian Cruise Line Latitudes Rewards
- Oceania’s Oceania Club
- P&O Peninsular Club
- Princess Captain’s Club
- Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Society
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
- Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer
- Windstar Yacht Club
Though normally unlocked after two cruises, the Branson-backed line is offering Sailing Club ‘Sea-Rover’ status to first-time Virgin Voyages passengers.
From now until the end of 2023, the ‘Match and Sea More’ status match grants eligible members automatic ‘Sea-Rover’ status and access to what it calls ‘Deep Blue Extras’ on their first voyage through to December 31, 2024. These are:
- Expedited boarding: a VIP-style embarkation line at the terminal
- $100 bar tab credit: for use on cocktails, mocktails, smoothies and more
- Unlimited premium WiFi: access to a faster network than the standard free WiFi
- Dedicated sailor services support: an onboard agent to assist your needs
- Exclusive cocktail event: a special soiree for those with Deep Blue Extras
- Laundry service: incl. two pressed items, one specialty item and a bag of laundry
- Daily coffee credit: $10 speciality coffee credit per cabin
The sole caveat is that you must already have a paid booking for your first Virgin cruise, but not actually taken that trip – a condition that’s perfect for Velocity members setting sail on the Resilient Lady when she makes her Australian debut this December, based out of Melbourne and Sydney with sailings to Hobart, Auckland and more until March 2024.
To apply, simply submit proof of membership showing your name and status with an eligible program (full details and eligible programs are available on the Virgin Voyages website here). You should hear back within seven days if approved.
Virgin Australia recently dropped a limited time points offer allowing Velocity frequent flyers to swap 79,999 points for a Virgin cruise in a Sea Terrace Cabin. If you managed to secure one (and hold Gold or above), you should be eligible for this status match.
However, it’s worth noting that while you may be approved, you’ll be ineligible for the Deep Blue Extras due to the discounted ticket. But, you will be able to enjoy them on your next full-fare cruise, which is still one sailing sooner than non-matched cruisers.
Described as a fresh take on luxury cruising, Virgin Voyages promises a hotel experience at sea with all-inclusive dining, unlimited WiFi and group workouts, and no hidden fees – plus the solid lure of being for adults only, as all passengers must be aged 18 years or over.
