Optus launches $10/day travel packs for roaming calls, data
Optus has released a new roaming Travel Pack offering unlimited standard and international calls and text plus 50MB of data in Australia's top destinations for a flat $10 per day.
The add-on pack lets Australian subscribers use their Optus SIM card and number in Asia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, Europe, the UK, the USA and Canada, which all fall into Optus' Zone 1 category.
You can buy several days' worth of useage and accumulate the total data – for example, $50 will cover five days and give you 250MB which can be any time over the five-day period.
However, once your Travel Pack runs out you'll be charged $1 per minute for calls, 50c per SMS and 50c/MB for data.
Optus doesn't offer a Travel Pack solution for the countries in what in terms Zone 2 – including Latin America, Africa and the Middle East – but casual rates see calls charged at $2 per minute, texts at $1 per message and data at $1/MB.

Optus also offers a Travel Data Pack which is $10/day for 70mb/day without unlimited calls/txt. However, this appears to be restricted to mobile broadband plans.
Both are only really advantageous if travelling through a bunch of countries but spending just a few days in each. Otherwise it'd be better just to use a local SIM card for longer stays.

A reasonable start but no where near as good as the Vodafone Red plans, although admittedly Voda dont offer the same coverage ie: Asia as Optus... For now.
