Panasonic preps satellite for Australian, NZ inflight Internet

IN BRIEF | Panasonic Avionics expects to boost inflight Internet across Australia and New Zealand, as well as on the trans-Tasman routes, by offering airlines the use of a satellite with a dedicated South Pacific footprint.
The company, which already provides many airlines around the world with inflight entertainment and communications systems, has revealed it has leased a transponder on the Eutelsat 172A satellite through the Australian Satellite Communications group.
The satellite can support Panasonic's eXConnect inflight broadband system, with passengers connecting via wifi hotspots throughout the plane, along with the mobile phone system eXPhone, and the eXTV service which beams live television channels onto seatback video screens as well as devices such as iPads.
