Lufthansa opens massive Senator gold-class lounge in Frankfurt

At just over a quarter the size of a football field (and we're talking either soccer or rugby league), Lufthansa's new 1,800 square metre Senator Lounge at Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1 is the airline's largest lounge to date.

Open to Senator members of Lufthansa's Miles & More frequent flyer program, and travellers on other Star Alliance airlines holding equivalent Gold status, the space is kitted out with all you'd expect from a world-class premium lounge – and then some.

For example: showers for freshening up before your flight would be mandatory. You might even think that the Senator Lounge's ten such shower rooms are about right given the amount of traffic it'll have.

But you probably didn't expect to find two spa rooms and a range of treatments including massages, facials and other beauty treatments.

A relaxation zone tucked away from the bistro, bar and work areas? That's a given. Not so the leather day beds and the sealed-off smokers' room.

And of course there'll be a bar. And the bartender at lounge's City Lights Bar – which has its named spelled out in metre-high letters to create an eye-catching room divider – is as happy to mix your favourite cocktail as to pull a beer or pour a glass of wine.

Lufthansa continues its signature design from other lounges (including the exclusive First Class Terminal at Frankfurt Airport) as well as its latest fleet such as the German flag-carrier's Airbus A380s.

This extends from the colours and materials used throughout the lounge to 'open' touches like the atrium In the centre of the lounge, which sees natural light flood into all those areas not fronted by the 130 square metre glass facade.

Not the best lounge by any means - a bit like a shopping mall or supermarket  - too large and there are other much better lounges in Frankfurt - and of course the best in Munich since the renovations I'd avoid it unless ur at the B gates - wouldnt make a special trip like i did  -stick to the Arrrivals lounge or other Senator lounges!!!!!!!!!!!
