Singapore is home to a new luxury landmark with the opening of the Sofitel Singapore City Centre hotel.
The location is refreshingly out of the congested downtown area, tucked away in Chinatown's colourful and historic Tanjong Pagar district, with access to the local MRT station directly below the hotel.
The Sofitel Singapore City Centre's 223 designer rooms feature floor to ceiling windows and complimentary minibars which the hotel says will be serviced by a "droid butler".
Creature comforts for the corporate traveller include a smartphone with free data plus local and international calls to 10 countries; Bose sound systems and smart TVs, Nespresso coffee machines and TWG teas, large soaking tubs with separate rain showers and amenities from Lanvin or Hermes.
Guests in Luxury Club Rooms and Suites – including the elegant Prestige Suite, shown below – will have access to the Club Millésime lounge, including breakfast, evening cocktails and canapes, a library, intimate meeting spaces and a butler service.
In addition to the hotel's own SoFit gym, Club floor guests will have access to the adjacent Virgin Active Fitness Club. Sofitel has also managed to squeeze in a 30 metre infinity lap pool with morning yoga sessions held on the lawn.
Dining outlets include Racines, helmed by award-winning Executive Chef Jean-Charles Dubois and offering both French and Chinese cuisines prepared in four open kitchens...
... while the 1864 bar will serve up everything from high tea and tapas to cocktails and Champagne.
The Sofitel Singapore City Centre will also boast 20,000 square feet of meeting spaces across 10 flexible venues, from conference rooms to ballrooms.
The Sofitel Singapore City Centre is the 13th local property from the AccorHotels group, and will be followed by year's end by a combined 782-room Novotel and Mercure complex at Stevens Road, near Orchard Road and the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Had a wonderful stay at this new hotel just 2 weeks ago. It was a surprise to us that it had only opened a few days before. We had access to the club, oh that was so nice and we were spoilt rotten. We loved the outdoor area of the lounge which adjoins the pool. And the pool was a treat in itself. And David is right, great access to the MRT via a direct lift and easy access to Chinatown and great restaurants.
We will be back!

Great hotel, stayed last week but they are having some serious learning curve issues with staff. Took them nearly 10 minutes and three requests for my passport to check me in (despite being Accor Gold and having pre-provided everything that most Accor properties need to check-in); room service only had Tiger despite having seven beers on the menu; and on checkout day I was woken up by housekeeping despite having arranged a late checkout and the DND light on. The staff themselves are all lovely which overrode these minor issues - and the hotel has great facilities - particularly in Singapore where a few of the of the top hotels are looking a little tired/worn. I am sure I heard on the way out that they actually only have three floors of the hotel operational with work still going on - but there was no obvious signs of that during my stay.
