Qantas offers double frequent flyer points with airberlin
Qantas is stumping up for double frequent flyer points on travel with new chum and oneworld partner airberlin.
Running from March 20 through to May 15, 2012, the promotion requires registration online before you book.
Once that's done you'll earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points at twice the standard rate.
And what are those rates? They top out at 1 point per mile for airberlin business class and several economy class fares, although you get a 25% cabin bonus for sitting at the pointy end of the plane.
However, some discount economy booking classes yield just 0.5 or even 0.25 points per mile, as detailed in the table below.
Business | Economy | Discount Economy | Discount Economy | |
Booking class |
JCDI | YBHKLM | VSNQG | OPWE |
Points Base earn rate (per mile / 1.61km) |
1 | 1 | 0.5 | 0.25 |
Cabin bonus | 25% | - | - | - |
Qantas also warns that no points are earned when travelling in classes other than those specified above.

I'm guessing QFF status points won't be earned with airberlin?

Status credits are earned at the samerate for oneworld partner airlines. See https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/status-credits for details.

What do you think is the likelihood of Qantas and Air Berlin establishing some codeshare flights? e.g. QF to Singapore and then Air Berlin onwards to Berlin.

That would be interesting. At the moment I'm seeing slightly better value with airberlin from Singapore to Europe compared to BA. That's my plan for an upcoming trip, QF to Singapore and airberlin onwards. That should see me crack gold status finally too
