Qantas trials pre-flight meal ordering for business class
Qantas is trialling an ‘advance meal selection service’ which lets travellers choose their inflight meals online, before they even step on the plane.
The trial of the Select on Q - Eat program is available to business class passengers on four flights from Los Angeles to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne (specifically QF12, QF16, QF94 and QF108).
And while it currently covers only the supper portion of the flight, the online menu includes several dishes available only when you order in advance.
The service, which works along the same lines as Singapore Airline’s Book The Cook program and Thai Airways' Pre-order Meal Service, is available up to 24 hours prior to departure, and naturally meal choices aren’t guaranteed.
According to the airline, “depending on the success of Select on Q, the service may be extended to other Qantas flights.”

Good idea - passengers have a better choice, and QF can reduce costs by not over-catering. Win.

Totally agree. Should roll this out to every flight that offers passengers a meal choice regardless of fare class.

Great Idea. I hope my PA knows what I want to eat.

Will this make any difference to my pre-ordered vegetarian meal? I always have to take what is loaded into the cart, whether I like it or not. Usually, though, I have to say that my Qantas meal is very good. On Domestic Business flights, my hubby often says he "should have ordered vegetarian." On International Business flights, though, his options are VERY good.
