Qantas has brought home The World of Fine Wine’s 'Best Airline Wine List in the World' award for 2014.
Citing the Red Roo’s broad range of wines in business and first class, the award also recognises the quality of the selections.
On Qantas’ wine lists are many renowned Australian winemakers, including Cape Mentelle, Coldstream Hills and Yabby Lake, along with rising stars such as Mac Forbes and SC Pannell.
Australian Business Traveller recently sat down with Qantas Sommelier David Holder to see just how the airline pairs wines with its ever-changing menus.
Qantas “really has gone much further than any of the other airlines we have seen,” said Neil Beckett, The World of Fine Wine’s editor and chairman of the judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists awards.
“An excellent selection, and very nicely presented, too.”
With vintage champagne available in first class – currently the 2000 Pol Roger Cuvée Winston Churchill and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne – fussy flyers are sure to find a matching drop.

Have flown numerous One World airlines in the last year, as well as EK alliance and QF comes up tops for food and wine every time.... EK service is tops but their menu and wine list isn't a patch on QF :)

I am still amazed by the effort the J hosties put behind their wines - they still give a nice rundown on the origin and flavour of the drops before serving... even for their shortest sectors!
Plus, they're getting better about chilling their whites. Highly enjoyed a glass of the Yabby Lakes 2012 Chardonnay at the perfect temperature just the other night.
