Redeem Virgin Blue Velocity Rewards points for Queensland flood relief
Virgin Blue is encouraging its Velocity Rewards members to turn in their points in exchange for a donation to Queensland flood relief efforts.
Velocity will give a $25 donation to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal in exchange for every 3000 points. Points can be redeemed in batches of 3000, 6000 and 12000.
The over two million members of the Velocity Rewards programme can redeem their points right now. Velocity Rewards is the loyalty programme for Virgin Blue, V Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue.
"As a Queensland-based company, Virgin Blue and therefore Velocity are committed to assisting Queenslanders in their hour of need," a Virgin Blue spokesman told Australian Business Traveller. "This appeal gives Members the opportunity to also help their fellow Australians."
Airlines are digging deep into their pockets for the Premier's appeal: Etihad, a Virgin Blue partner airline, has pledged A$1 millon. Qantas has committed A$500,000, while Virgin Blue has already donated A$250,000.
Brisbane Airport has also sent $250,000, and Brisbane Airport Link has pledged a further A$20,000 to relief efforts.
Donations can be made online at qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html or by ringing 1800 219 028.
