Singapore Airlines A380 heads to Hong Kong
The double-decker jet’s return is another sign of confidence in Hong Kong’s reopening.
Singapore Airlines is bringing back one of the world’s shortest superjumbo flights, with the mighty A380 making the four-hour hop to Hong Kong and back each day from December 1, 2022.
It’s an unmistakeable sign of strong demand between the two Asian financial hubs now that Hong Kong has ended mandatory hotel quarantine.
The 475-seat A380 will replace the 264-seat Boeing 777 on daily flights SQ894/SQ895.
It’ll be a special treat for Singapore Airlines first class flyers, even if they’ll have little time to enjoy the A380’s six spacious Suites – indeed, travellers could well end up spending almost as much time in Singapore Airlines’ new flagship lounges at Changi T3 as they will in the air.
And while in the air, business class passengers will have free WiFi for the entire flight, with two hours free in premium economy and economy.
Singapore-Hong Kong used to be among the world’s busiest air corridors, with rivals Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific battling it out for premium passengers alongside lower-cost carriers such as Hong Kong Airlines, Scoot and Jetstar Asia.
Depending on how Hong Kong evolves its current program which sees all arrivals effectively banned from bars, cafes and restaurants for the first three days of their stay, demand on the route could surge in the lead-up to the Chinese New Year period, which stretches from January 22 to February 5 to usher in the year of the Rabbit.

I’m sure things will get back to normal in general but I’m not so sure about Hong Kong. Hong Kong was on the way out before COVID, there will be demand for the A380 maybe one way leaving Hong Kong.

You may find crew have allocated all the beds as their rest areas - have had this happen many times flying SQ First A380, which is one of the reasons why we stopped flying SQ First Cathay First 1a is the best! Decent lounges, fantastic food, decent non-fake staff, decent transit without stupid SIA gates, and a first world airport, not some decrepit add on aka SIA And in Cathay First, if you are 1A or 2A you are the only pax who can use this aisle.
