Sydney Airport begins work on new Terminal 2 dining precinct

Passengers departing from Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2 can soon take advantage of a new range of casual dining options following an overhaul of the terminal’s food and beverage areas.

The works will introduce a range of new brands to the domestic terminal used by Virgin Australia, REX, Jetstar, FlyPelican and Tigerair including Green Label, Hokka Hokka, Mad Mex, Red Rooster, Roll’d, Sahara Grill and Sumo Salad.

Additionally, Chur Burger will open its first-ever airport outlet in the terminal, while additional seating will be installed along with improved signage to help travellers.

Construction is now underway with the first stage due for completion by year’s end and the full upgrades concluded in 2016.

“As part of the wider improvements plan for Sydney Airport, this project will revitalise the food and beverage offering in T2, Australia’s busiest airport terminal,” said Sydney Airport’s MD/CEO Kerrie Mather.

“Sydney Airport is Australia’s gateway and we’re working hard to deliver our passengers an enhanced customer experience and more efficient operations to our airline partners,” Mather added.

I remember a while ago, there was some plan about moving airlines to different terminals so they are more 'alliance based' for smoother transit. Is this still happening?

VA dissed the idea because they were to be shifted to T1.

I have never even thought of buying food or drinks in the terminal - I always head straight to the lounge ; P

The lounge is great unles you're hungry. Then the likes of Chur Burger and the existing MoVida Cafe come into their own... Just have your luggage tags prominently displayed so people know you have lounge access! ;)

Same - however I dare say, there's probably better food options in the general concourse than there is in the lounge. For a fee, of course ;)

So the priority for T2 was the food hall?

They've been upgrading the gates over the last 1-2 years. I'd say this is the next phase.

Look at the bright side, at least they're spending money on things that would benefit travellers instead of building more expensive car parks.

I love Chur Burger and MoVida two very good options to have at T2, even better would be if you could get them in the lounge.

I'd love to go to the Safari Grill because I would like to enjoy African foods.
