More buses will run to Sydney Airport next year, following the NSW government’s announcement of new and additional bus services.
The new routes will be
- Chatswood to Sydney Airport, via Sydney CBD and Botany Road
- Bondi Junction to Miranda via Sydney Airport
The existing Route 400 service from Bondi Junction to Burwood via Sydney Airport will also run more often.
The government also plans to introduce more bus lanes around Sydney Airport, and give buses priority at traffic lights, to speed the journey and improve on-time performance.
Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather welcomed the announcements, saying “we’ve long advocated for additional and more affordable bus and train services to the airport, with only one public bus route to the airport until now."
The airport's master plan includes building a new bus and multi-purpose parking facility, Maher said.
“These new and increased bus routes are a good first step towards easing road congestion, meeting passenger demand, and providing people with more choice and convenience when getting to and from the airport.
The Government has yet to release details of the new routes, including if they will stop at both the domestic and international terminal precincts.
The new services are expected to begin in the first half of 2014.

About time! I'm so tired on spending $50+ on either the train tax, the taxi rip-off or the outrageous parking fees...

Excellent news, depending on how long they take. I live fairly close to Chatswood (slightly further north), so this will definitely be something I'll consider (the existing train/bus via Rockdale is an absurd option!)

Use the wheelchair bay and luggage rack. I'm expecting these services to fall under the State Transit route contacts, so most services will be run with their newer low floor buses that have stepless entry, luggage racks and wheelchair bays.

The bus would be ok if you were on a flexible ticket and didn't have anything else to do for a few hours before your flight - there are too many possibliities of being late compared to the train, taxi or Uber.

Perhaps the powers that be can put their minds together to come up with a way of eliminating the bus transfer between domestic and international terminals.

While it is all well and good to complain about the disappointing - some might say disgusting - state of affairs with regards to inter-terminal transfers at Sydney Airport, it is nevertheless still important to remember that the planned improved and additional public bus services to Sydney Airport fall under the authority of the New South Wales State Government, in contrast to the terminal transfer tragedy which falls under the responsibility of the Airport corporation; thus, the fact that they happen to both revolve around buses as their primary vehicle does not make them so similar a situation as to validate your complaint, as the "powers that be" are, in fact, not the same powers to begin with.
