Thai Airways boosts Melbourne-Bangkok flights to double daily
The double-daily service brings the Thai flag-carrier’s schedule back to pre-pandemic norms.

Thai Airways is taking full advantage of the upswing in international travel, and Australia’s impending summer holiday season, with a move to double-daily flights between Melbourne and Bangkok from December 1.
It’s another reflection of increased demand, both for travellers headed to the colourful Thai capital and further afield, from near-neighbour India to Europe and the UK.
Melbourne Airport says the return to twice-daily flights sees Thai’s timetable “resume to pre-pandemic levels less than 12 months after borders reopened.”
“Thai Airways is one of Melbourne’s longest serving airline partners and was one of the first international airlines to return to Melbourne after our international borders were opened,” the airport said in a statement.

Here are the details on those double-daily Thai Airways flights between Melbourne and Bangkok, both of which will rely on the modern Airbus A350 with flatbed business class seats.
Bangkok to Melbourne
- TG461: departs Bangkok at 8.20am, arrives into Melbourne at 9.20pm
- TG465: departs Bangkok at 12.05am, arrives into Melbourne at 1.05pm
Melbourne to Bangkok
- TG462: departs Melbourne at 12.30am, arrives into Bangkok at 5.40am
- TG466: departs Melbourne at 3.25pm, arrives into Bangkok at 8.35pm
Thai’s business class passengers, Royal Orchard Plus Gold and Platinum members and their Star Alliance Gold equivalents can begin their journey at the lounges of Star Alliance members Air New Zealand or Singapore Airlines, depending on how the opening hours of those lounges align with the departure times of the Thai Airways flights.

Im sure they will have no problem filling these flights, business is already $5-6k on Thai and $7-8k on its competitors via Sydney!

It's great to see THAI back with double daily flights from Melbourne. I still find THAI a reliable carrier to fly with excellent meals and genuine service from the heart. Hopefully they can get wifi back soon to return fully to a pre-covid service offering.

I flew Thai Air from Melbourne to Bangkok on their A350 back in 2019. Best economy class service I've ever experienced.

Any word on Perth - Bangkok post 29 October? Are Thai AIrways abandoning Perth at the beginning of the holiday season? There are no flights scheduled beyond 29 Oct, can anbody shed some light on this. Thanks

I flew TG466 2 days before the lockdown of MEL in 2020 (2020/3/18) and managed to get back to China mainland 1 day later. I still miss the date when I can book a return itinerary freely and get back to my job with no quarantine. China is still in the zero-COVID policy and I cannot see an end to the future when travel was freely like pre-COVID.
