The Porter House Hotel, MGallery by Sofitel coming to Sydney

Sydney’s skyline will soon be adorned with a new luxury hotel as AccorHotels plans to open The Porter House Hotel under its MGallery by Sofitel brand by the end of 2020.

Located on the corner of Bathurst and Castlereagh Streets in the city’s CBD, a $380 million mixed-use building will house the 121-room hotel on levels 1-9 with 131 residential apartments above on levels 10-34.

The development will interweave the existing 1870s-era Porter House found adjacent to the tower – from which the hotel gets its name – which will also be revitalised as part of the project.

Guestrooms at the property also take design cues from the heritage-listed building with rich leathers, polished metal accents and timber all making an appearance…

… along with rounded showers constructed of bronze and glass and heritage-inspired decorative tiles:

Guests arriving at the hotel will first be greeted by a contemporary lobby…

… before then reaching the main lobby which looks more like a warm, cosy cabin than your typical hotel reception area:

Joining that on level four will be a bar with views upwards towards the stars – presumably darting out from the otherwise-vertical tower – which will also house a roving art gallery…

… along with a pool, fitness centre, meeting and business facilities and two restaurants:

“The Sydney hotel sector is the strongest in Australia with consistent occupancy levels in the mid-high 80% range and average rates growing sharply,” said AccorHotels COO Pacific Simon McGrath.

“A new boutique hotel such as this will provide both business and leisure travellers with a new luxury boutique experience in Sydney, whether they visit for conferences, events, cultural or sporting events,” McGrath added.

Construction of the hotel is set to begin in early 2018 with completion due by December 2020: after which, travellers are expected to be able to earn and redeem Le Club AccorHotels points on their stays, with members of all tiers enjoying their usual benefits.

The location is pretty good - 2mins from Museum Station or 5mins from Town Hall!
