Typhoon Vicente: Cathay Pacific suspends all Hong Kong flights

Cathay Pacific has suspended all its flights from Hong Kong as Severe Typhoon Vicente lashes south China, and is advising all passengers travelling on Tuesday not to proceed to the airport until they have confirmed their flight will run.

The airline will reassess the situation at 0800 local time, 1000 on Australia's east coast, but don't expect things to return to normal immediately.

Cancellations, delays and disruptions are highly likely even when flights resume. "Delays are possible as the airline works to get its aircraft and crews in position to operate its flights," Cathay Pacific is advising passengers.

"Passengers who can defer travel currently scheduled over the next 48 hours are strongly encouraged to do so," the airline said in a statement overnight.

"Cathay Pacific will waive rebooking and cancellation penalties for travel through 25 July inclusive on flights to, from, and through Hong Kong."

The airline suggests that you check that your mobile phone and email address are entered correctly into your online booking so that they can get in touch with you with further information.

Hong Kong Airport is also disrupted. In a statement, the airport authority said: "Due to Typhoon Vicente, flight operations may be affected. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest flight information or check with the airport's website before departing for the airport."
