Virgin America status match for United, American Airlines

Virgin America is rolling out the status match red carpet to top-tier United MileagePlus Premier and American Airlines AAAdvantage Gold and Platinum members.

Gold and Silver status in Virgin America's Elevate frequent flyer program are up for grabs if you're an equivalent cardholder with United or American (sorry, airlines from outside the US aren't part of the deal).

Here's how the status match levels shake out.

All the usual perks are available for Elevate Silver and Gold including priority checkin, security and boarding, free checked bags, free day passes to Virgin America's lounge at LAX, bonus points when you fly and free Main Cabin Select extra-legroom seats in economy.

And your new-found Virgin America status is only temporary, running through to April 30th 2013, unless you rack up the necessary points to keep that plastic.

Those rates are below the standard 20,000 and 50,000 Elevate points per membership year you'd normally need to reach Silver or Gold.

To sign up, email [email protected] with your Elevate number and either:

  • A copy or screenshot of your most recent mileage summary showing your name and current elite level; or,
  • a copy of your membership card that identifies your name and current elite level in the United or American Airlines frequent flyer program

Click through to the Virgin American status match page for more details.
