Virgin Australia improves linen turndown service in business class

Passengers travelling to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi with Virgin Australia can now enjoy a mattress and an improved linen service in business class.

All of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER flights now see a pressure-relieving memory foam mattress as standard, with both pillows and the duvet 20% larger than previously offered.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson told Australian Business Traveller that the memory foam mattress “moulds to passengers’ bodies for better night's sleep”.

Our top tip: When catching some shut-eye, fasten your seat belt over the duvet (pictured), rather than resting the duvet on top.

In the event of turbulence, the crew can then easily spot your seat belt, which avoids having to wake you to ensure it's fastened.

In addition to the size boost, the high-grade cotton duvet and pillow are “styled to complement the interior of the aircraft cabin”.

The move follows the airline’s refresh of its Boeing 777 aircraft in 2012, and closely resembles Qantas’ business class ‘sleep service’ – launched in the same year.

Virgin Australia flies the Boeing 777-300ER from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles, from Sydney to Abu Dhabi, and from Abu Dhabi to Kuala Lumpur on behalf of Etihad Airways.

Suprised it's taken VA two years to catch up to Qantas on this feature

"... and from Abu Dhabi to Kuala Lumpur on behalf of Etihad Airways." How long have they operating this? And what is the frequency? Are they VA or EY staff onboard?

They're VA staff. There is an EY "Ambassador" onboard. About 2 years it's been running I believe. And it's a single AUH/KUL/AUH flight on Sunday to make use of a 35hr layover in AUH.

VA has had a seat cover similar to QFs since before QF started their sleep service.  The new one is more of a proper mattress like Air NZ uses and is an enhancement not a catch up. Plus VA has offered a turn down service since they started their 777 flights.
