XiamenAir launches flights between Melbourne and Xiamen, China
IN BRIEF | Less than 12 months after XiamenAir's Sydney debut, the SkyTeam member airline now also offers non-stop flights between Melbourne and Xiamen, China, with its first Victorian arrival marking the beginning of the new financial year.
A magnet for travellers in the financial sectors, Xiamen serves not only as the airline’s namesake hub but is also home to offices for over 600 financial institutions: rivalling China’s perhaps better-known business hot-spot of Shanghai.
Served by the same Boeing 787-8 aircraft already flying to Sydney from both Fuzhou and Xiamen, passengers can relax in one of four first class suites – each stretching to 198cm when in bed mode and in a single-row 1-2-1 layout…
… while business class spans just three rows in a 2-2-2 configuration, but which also recline into fully-flat beds:
That sleeping mode is best put to use on the overnight journey home from Xiamen, departing at 10:30pm local time on Thursdays and Sundays for an arrival into Melbourne at 10:05am the following morning on flight MF803.
On the return, MF804 takes to the skies on Mondays and Fridays, perfect for both business travellers and weekends away, pushing back at 12:05pm in Melbourne to reach Xiamen at 7:45pm that same evening.
Flights on this new route can be booked online via the XiamenAir website:

Nice to see more expansion, particularly from Skyteam (the "less beloved" airline alliance). The product is a touch dated but new point-to-point routes are always good to see.
