Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines to support Apple Passbook

Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines to support Apple Passbook

Qantas and Virgin Australia now support Apple’s Passbook app for their mobile boarding passes, but what about the other airlines which fly in and out of Australian skies?

British Airways is already known to be planning to add Passbook support to its online checkin system, while a spokesperson for Cathay Pacific assures Australian Business Traveller "we are working on support for the Passbook feature on iPhone… we expect to launch Passbook support feature at a later stage.”

You can also count Singapore Airlines in the coming-soon camp. “Our boarding passes are currently not available on Apple's Passbook yet but plans are underway to roll this out next year" an SQ spokesperson told us.

While Malaysia Airlines says it already supports Passbook, this applies "only for domestic and regional Malaysia services" – we're waiting to hear back on plans to extend this further.

Ditto for Virgin Atlantic, which this week launched its Passbook service for Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports, but has yet to expand it outside the UK, although Sydney and Hong Kong are on the roadmap.

The odd one out so far is Air New Zealand, which seems sold on its own mpass application, telling Australian Business Traveller “we have no immediate plans to implement Passbook.”

We're still to hear back from Emirates, Etihad and several other airlines, and will update this article as new information comes to hand.

Question David, the image at the top of the screen shows a red, silver, gold and ?2 platinum passes.  What is the second pass? CL or P1?

Not that my name is David, but I am picking P1. On the P1 card, it has Platinum One written in red, so I am guessing that the same applies to the passbook BP.

Mattdc is on the money! I zoomed into the high-res pic sent to us by Qantas and the text in the red stripe of the rearmost Passbook screen, just above the bardcode square – which is where the first Passbook screen shows  'Bronze' - you can see the letters 'Pl'. (There's no text on the other passbook screens in the middle but one can assume the order from front to back is Bronze-Silver-Gold-Platinum, so this fifth is thus Platinum One.)

Keen to see if Qantas will integrate the WP8 MS Wallet / NFC function into its fantastic WP app.  Leave the Qantas FF Card at home, and tap with the phone instead to the gate.

Definitely agree. I'd really like to see more airlines come out with Windows Phone 8 apps that integrate with the Wallet feature, so a simple tap of the phone (via NFC) is all that's needed.
