G’day, my fellow frequent flyers!
I think it’s time to remove Qantas gold members from priority boarding. Am I bias? You bet! Qantas platinum here…
It’s absolutely hilarious when I sit back and watch the priority line bigger than the non-priority line. I am sure you are aware but this happens more often than not.
What’s the benefit of the privilege when most of the passengers on the flight are entitled to it? There’s no benefit. No one is important when everyone is important.
And I know that the whole Qantas boarding process is a shambles, but when they do police it it does kind of work.
So my request to Qantas - Either do it properly, or don’t do it all, and don’t tell me that priority boarding as a platinum member is a privilege…cause it ain’t.
Cheers

Gold is equivalent to Oneworld Sapphire, which has priority boarding across the network as a perk.
I care less about when (P1) I board but would rather see hand luggage with some degree of gentle enforcement. The one + personal item is starting to get more and more ridiculous, particularly when combined with the all-important airport moneymaker of retail (one roll on + one laptop bag + one giant box of Krispy Kreme). Recently it seems that suit bags are no longer being counted as anything, but at least they can usually lie flat across other items in the overhead.
QF Gold has priority boarding and some fairly dated Qantas Clubs. End of list. Getting decent upgrades has become a bloodsport. Priority boarding costs the airline nothing.

Did you ever stop to think that some Platinum One members might think that mere Platinum's should be removed, as well ?
Just asking for a friend :-)

How about removing all of the 'riff-raff' (like those lowly Plats and P1s) and dedicating it exclusively to first & business passengers only? Just asking for a friend :-)

All FFs are equal, but some are more equal than others...

I stop and think all the time...no need to be rude.
I'm all for it. If it means that the privilege is actually valuable to someone then so be it! Right now the privilege is valuable to noone.Sibelius

On the one hand you state that the problem is that there are too many Qantas Golds, but on the other hand you also state that "when they do police it it does kind of work". So maybe the problem is not the Golds after all, but the Silvers and Bronzes who use PB?

Now all the COVID status gifting is over, you might actually see a progressive reduction in golds and platinums in the line.

Better to announce Platinum one first, check and board them, and if a platinum goes up, they would be sent back etc, then you won’t have the problem of golds being part of the line. American does it very well, and locally virgin does an amazing job. QF do not mind, because they are giving away their money (us) to a fly a much inferior product most times.
If some of us switch allegiance, these systems would get implemented faster.
Main culprit is the double status credits….too many golds are obtained with few return economy tickets or possibly one multi stop business round trip.

Boarding groups will give you all the above. With "declined" coming up on the scanner should you try to board before your group is called.

Double the eligible sector requirement for Gold, triple it for Platinum.
It is a Frequent flyer program after all.

Agreed, American do a good job of priority boarding, cant be that hard for Qantas to sort it out. Copy and paste, simples!!
