What do you reckon would happen if they just slowly but surely started doing more and more inside the US and didnt do as much with AA? could that work?

It could work to an a certain point but i think if it was to happen they still would have a lot to do with AA so they could feed more traffic on us routes

It's not about Agreements with AA, it's about Ninth Freedom Rights. That is the right for an airline to fly domestically within a country other than it's home country.
The US will never grant 9th freedom rights to QF, so they would only be able to fly pax connecting from an Australia - USA service, and there will never be enough pax to make that profitable.

I think the best approach is to engage AA from the start, especially now while they are restructuring and offer 2 A380s and 2 747s in full international configuration as an option that enables mass tnasit on high density routes as a way of helping reduce their liability. They need AA to help fee tourists and business into the trans pacific routes. Unless they are willing to launch QF America they still need AA unfortunately. Dont get me wrong AA are a good airline, but so 80s/90s....

Yeah hence my 80s/90s reference, their planes aside my one experience was of friendly staff who were very professional. Maybe an AA/QF merger with QF as the senior partner would work for everyone...I imagine US law would prevent that though...

I reckon San Francisco will be on the 787-8 list for Jetstar... MEL-SFO and SYD-SFO... for them San Fran is a great market, as it's mainly leisure but with enough business class to load up the front, and it's also point-to-point, no onwards connections (QF likes hubs with onwards, like LAX and DFW).

While you are talking about jetstar, do you think the jetstar 787s will be used in asia?
