IN BRIEF | Virgin Australia partner Delta Air Lines now offers travellers another way to upgrade from economy to first class by using miles.
When booking an economy ticket through the Delta website, travellers can now use miles to pay the fare difference between economy and first class at the rate of one cent per mile.
For example, if the economy ticket you’d selected costs $195 and a seat in first class on the same flight came in at $420, you’d be up for 22,500 miles to cover the spread.
Delta’s existing mileage rates for first class upgrades remain both available and unchanged, making this new option best for short flights where the fare difference between economy and first is relatively small.
