Qantas partner Fiji Airways will launch non-stop flights between Adelaide and Nadi (Fiji) from 30 June 2017.
Using a Boeing 737 aircraft, passengers can stretch out in one of eight reclining business class seats…
… with those in the second row offering considerably more legroom than those ahead, due to the position of the bulkhead wall in the first row:
Running twice-weekly in each direction, flight FJ960 will depart Adelaide at 10pm on Mondays and Fridays, reaching Nadi at 5:35am the following morning.
On the return, FJ961 is wheels-up at 4:30pm in Nadi – also on Mondays and Fridays – landing at 8:30pm in Adelaide that same day.
“Fiji has always been a hugely popular destination with South Australian travellers, and Fiji Airways’ new link will make it even more attractive,” said Adelaide Airport Managing Director Mark Young.
“This creates another one-stop connection with the US West Coast with the added bonus of being able to stopover in beautiful Fiji,” Young added.
In Adelaide, business class travellers will have access to the domestic Qantas Club lounge before immigration, while in Nadi, the Fiji Airways Tabua Lounge awaits.
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn both points and status credits when travelling on Fiji Airways flights with an FJ flight number.

for those who would use this route to fly to the USA would have to spend all day waiting for their flights as the US flights don't leave until the late evening!

You have to wait all day for LAX but it does connect quite well with SFO.

Aircraft certainly looks inviting .. for daytime flights. However, the timing is deplorable. Ex Adelaide at 10pm for a 5.75hr flight and no lie-flat in business class .. ouch. As you say, US connections would require an almost 12 hr layover in Nadi. 'Missed opportunity' for Fiji Airways?

Regarding transiting to the US, don't forget its a leisure route first and foremost. As such the timing, product and no doubt the price will reflect accordingly.

55,000 Mileage Plan miles from Adelaide to Los Angeles via Nadi? Heck of deal, especially when you can stop at Fiji for a transit holiday, better than Qantas via Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane (costs 55000 MP miles as well)

Even if only on weekends when the narrowbody fleet is a bit quieter, Virgin Australia or Tigerair should jump in and do this route with a morning departure from Adelaide and and late evening arrival back into Adelaide similar to their Melbourne flights. Much friendlier scheduling than the horrible red-eyes offered by Fiji Airways.

Great for ADL since Qantas gave us the flick. Not ideal to have to use domestic lounge before immigration though. Time to expand and get better terminal facilities for international departures and stop sharing domestic.

I've never understood why Fiji airlines does the red eye - it's not a good start to a holiday when you've had no sleep.
