Last day to claim your free Qantas points, status credits
Qantas is gifting frequent flyers as many as 5,000 Qantas points or 75 status credits.
This has got to be the easiest way ever to pocket a free serve of Qantas points or status credits. There’s no strings attached, and you don’t need to do anything but tap a button in your Qantas app.
But move fast – this promotion expires at 11.59pm EST on Wednesday August 30, so the clock is ticking.
The give-away is being offered to all Qantas Frequent Flyer members who’ve taken at least one flight with Qantas in the past 12 months, and comes as a ‘thank you’ in recognition of their loyalty after the airline soared out of Covid with a record $2.47 billion full-year profit.
How many free Qantas points or status credits can you get?
The amount of free Qantas points and status credits being offered depends on how many Qantas flights were taking in the 12 months following July 1, 2022.
Anywhere from a single flight to nine flights will see you offered a choice between 1,000 bonus Qantas Points and 30 status credits.
Ten flights or more, and you’ll be invited to choose between 5,000 bonus Qantas Points and 75 status credits.
To put that into some context, 5,000 Qantas Points almost enough for an upgrade from a flexible economy ticket to business class between Sydney and Melbourne, while 75 status credits is just shy of what you’d earn on a one-way business class fare from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane to Perth.
Claiming your free Qantas points or status credits
The Qantas app on your smartphone or tablet is the key to unlocking these free Qantas points or status credits – there’s no mechanism for claiming them directly on the Qantas website.
You’ll also need to be running the latest version of the Qantas app, as it’s been updated to support this new feature.
After logging into the app with your Qantas Frequent Flyer number, you’ll be prompted to select your ‘gift’ from the home screen.
Choosing between free Qantas points and status credits
If you’re close to the threshold for retaining your current Qantas status or moving up one run to the next tier – say, from Silver to Gold, or Gold to Platinum – then these 30 or 75 status credits might be all it takes to close the gap.
(And don’t forget to take into account any looming loyalty bonus, which can be work an extra 50 status credits on its own.)
Likewise, if you are steadily working your way towards lifetime status – such as Lifetime Silver or Lifetime Gold – then those extra status credits bring you lose to that milestone.
However, status credits aren’t for everyone. There’s no point in choosing status credits if they’re not going to make a practical difference in your travels, compared to the higher utility value of Qantas Points.
It’s also worth noting these gifted status credits “do not count towards Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward and Status Accelerator earn requirements,” according to Qantas.
Whichever you choose, make it fast, because this promotion expires at 11.50pm EST on Wednesday August 30.

Hi all,
Just to note... If the offer isn't showing up on your phone App, it may be becuase your QANTAS App hasn't been updated. In which case, you need to go to the App store, search for the QANTAS App and then update. This worked for my wife and daughter.
Hope this helps.
