Qantas Points millionaires can now buy (practically) anything
There's a new way to spend your pandemic points stockpile.
If your frequent flyer points balance is starting to look like it could be a phone number, a new Qantas service could be just the answer to burning them on something you’ll truly value.
Qantas members with over one million points in their account are now being invited to spend their haul on just about any product – including luxury goods, watches, sports equipment or even a car. Points Club Plus members are also eligible.
“This gives some of our most loyal members a one-time chance to go big and use their points on something that they have never been able to before,” explains Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth, herself no stranger to a smart pair of Louboutins.
How does it work? Basically, anything with a cash value of between $5,500 and $37,500 is fair game.
Once you’ve got your heart set on that special something, a Qantas representative will provide a ‘points quote’ – and if you choose to go ahead, the airline will facilitate payment for the item on your behalf.
(Qantas Points are often considered Australia’s de facto currency after the dollar itself, and this arrangement pretty much ends the argument.)
The redemption has to be a physical product, not a service: here are some examples provided by Qantas of eligible items.
- Luxury designer bags and luggage
- Jewellery, accessories and watches
- Sport equipment, electronics and appliances
- Cars, bikes or a yacht
- Artwork
- Musical instruments
- Homewares and home furnishings
Qantas Club members have redeemed a staggering 2.5 billion points in just October alone, with a booking frenzy kicked off soon after it was announced that international travel would resume from November 1.

It certainly will be, Mspcooper, and I'm sure it'd make a great gift for an infrequent flyer ahead of their next holiday :)

luxury watch......any chance of a rolex SS model since the wait list is so long, maybe the points team can pull a few strings, i am sure people with million points would be happy to part way with their points if we can get hold of a SS model
