Oman Air's new Boeing 787 first class suites are cosy Dreamliner dens
Oman Air will fit 'First Class Mini Suites' to a new tranche of Boeing 787-9 jets, joining the handful of airlines with the confidence to bring a first class travel experience to the Dreamliner.
Many airlines – including Qantas – have chosen to cap their Boeing 787-9s with business class, but Oman Air is going all the way with fully-enclosed suites featuring sliding privacy doors some 1.4 metres high.
Passengers will enjoy what's become the new norm for first class including an in-suite chilled mini-bar, a personal wardrobe plus dedicated stowage for carry-on bags.
The 23-inch wide seat becomes 30 inches once you drop the armrests and converts into fully flat bed measuring 76 inches (1.9 metres) from head to heels.
The ottoman can be used by a guest inflight, with a large table providing room to share a meal above the clouds.
A 22 inch video screen, two high-power USB ports and of course an AC socket round out the roster.
A spokesman for Oman Air tells Australian Business Traveller that the airline expects to be flying four of the new Boeing 787-9s by year's end, with the jets dedicated to popular routes into Europe.
Oman Air's current Boeing 787-9 fleet tops out at business class, but the airline has not advised if those existing jets will be refitted with the new suites.
Oman Air has codeshare partnerships with Etihad for passengers flying from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and Perth (at least until Etihad pulls out of the WA capital in October) to Abu Dhabi, and Malaysia Airlines on flights from Melbourne and Auckland to Kuala Lumpur.

That's a nice looking product. It's a shame Oman Air's international network is not yet that extensive.

Very nice, reminds me of Etihad's Boeing 787 first class suites. Not wanting to start a firefight but I think this is the sort of thing that Qantas should have put on its Boeing 787-9s, even just one row of four suites.

I think four seats is a good number for F. Eight is slightly ambitious imo.

So then people on AUSBT could complain how their F "experience" wasn't worth the extra $/points from J?
Honestly, the gap between business and first class, is so small now, I think airlines are justified to cap it at business class.

An extremely underrated airline. Flew them in Y and J via KL before and probably the best airline I've flown. Hopefully the new Muscat airport brings the ground product that they desperately need.
Also 8 first suites on a Dreamliner...that is indeed ambitious.

PER -> LHR J seats don't feel new at all. They're perfectly fine, but realistically didn't feel any real difference between those and the A380/A330 business seats, except that there is aisle access for all if I remember correctly.

These QF 787 seats are quite different to the A380 seats but are the same as the A330 seat. I don't like the ,well, that your legs slide into as it hampers some movement, and make curing up very tricky.
