Cathay is steadily reopening its best airport lounges

Cathay Pacific’s cosy business class lounge at Tokyo Haneda is once again welcoming travellers, with the promise that more Cathay airport lounges will follow in the coming months.

Located on Level 6 of the Haneda’s international terminal 3, near gate 114, the Cathay Pacific lounge is now open from 7.30am to 5pm daily – sadly, this means it’s closed ahead of the late evening Qantas flights.

The compact lounge is notable for being the first in Cathay’s current lounge style, developed by feted London designer Ilse Crawford with a markedly relaxed residential vibe.

And more lounges will follow in unlocking their doors, the airline says.

“We are actively looking at reopening more of our premium airport lounges as we resume more flights,” a Cathay Pacific spokesperson tells Executive Traveller.

Many travellers will be hoping that Cathay’s Singapore and Bangkok lounges will be high on that list, given the popularity of both destinations.

Cathay reopened both its London Heathrow first and business class lounges – generally considered as Heathrow T3’s best lounges – in early 2022.

There’s been a resurgence of travel both to and from Hong Kong since the country ended quarantine in late September, while Cathay has been steadily rebuilding its network and bringing aircraft out of desert storage and back into the skies.

Cathay Pacific expects to be operating around 70% of its pre-pandemic passenger flight capacity by the end of 2023, "with an aim to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2024.”

What about HKG Pier and Bridge First Lounges?

The Bridge was only business class, it never had a first class section.  It also closed permanently last year.

I assume you mean the Pier and Wing first class lounges?

The Bridge was only ever a 'business' lounge, and it's been permanently closed. The Pier Business lounge is open for transit passengers at HKG, The Pier First lounge remains closed.

OK  I meant Wing the one with the cabanas and self service champagne Havent spent any real time in Cathay's Business lounges

That's The Wing First, which is open for travellers flying out of HKG but not in transit through HKG, due to how the airport is 'split' based on travel patterns.

I used to love The Wing First. The restuarant had a pretty good buffet along with the a la carte menu, compared to The Pier First which only has a menu. Tough to get a Cabana suite during peak hours but brilliant when you could score one. Had a really nice busy vibe to it too in the mornings ahead of all the CX flights into China.

OK  I meant Wing the one with the cabanas and self service champagne Haven't spent any real time in Cathay's Business lounges except the old lounge in Melbourne which is sadly gone and which was a welcome haven and escape from that dreadful Qantas In Biz Lounge dungeon

Cathay's Haneda lounge is a real gem, a shame it closes before the HND-SYD flight. Actually a lot of the newer CX lounges around Asia were great for QF flights, eg Bangkok and Manila. Definitely keen to see BKK back open, the Qatar lounge is great but only for business class on QF.

Looking forward to trying the CX lounge at Haneda before a JAL flight to JFK.  It is one floor above the JAL Sakura lounge which is generally reviewed as ‘ordinary’ at best.   Adjacent to the usual departure gate for our flight.
