IN BRIEF | All the frequent flyer fuss this week is about Qantas' debut of auctions for business class upgrades, but the airline is also tweaking the way it describes points-based flight awards.
Effective from today, 10 February 2015, the 'awards' become rewards in a positive bit of rebranding.
Qantas & Partner Classic Awards – where you booking an available seat using Qantas Points – will now be known as Classic Flight Rewards, while the equivalents offered through Oneworld airlines such as British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines are now dubbed Oneworld Classic Flight Rewards.
Any Seat Awards on Qantas and Jetstar – where you book any commercial seat available for sale on qantas.com with either points or a combination of Points plus Pay – have become Points Plus Pay – Flights.
Flight Upgrade Awards – where travellers request an upgrade from economy, premium economy or business to the next highest cabin, using Qantas Points – are henceforth known across the land as Classic Upgrade Rewards.
There's also a tweak for domestic On Departure Upgrade Awards, which are issued at the airport no more than three hours out from your flight – they're now known as On Departure Upgrade Rewards.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but they have sneaked in a (for now) $60 payment for exit seats on transcontinental flights. So much for rewarding their loyal FFs ... a lousy $60 for what would seem a very reasonable reward for brand loyalty in my mind just stinks. It did set QF aside from DJ and JQ ..... what next? Pay for baggage and food?
